Hi, Iskandar Jalil

We visited Iskandar Jalil @ Tanman Warisan.

Learned a lot from him. Not only about Wabi Sabi.

Wabi - ugly, terrible, hopeless
*over time*
Sabi - mellowed, seasoned, beautiful, antique

Sakura, real beauty is when the flowers are on the floor.

Beauty is the subtle part of things, not direct.
Beauty is the essence of life. Pinnacle.

Perfection in Imperfection
Assymetrical is the natural way
Simplicity

A GOOD piece of work
- describe what it is itself.
- no one will comment, everyone will be quietly apreciating it.
- HONESTY
> don't copy
> understanding the materials, doing what the material can do for you

Through time...

Over time... growth, corrosion, decomposition, wear & tear happens...

Sun, Rain and Wind were tools used by mother nature to create the pieces of works on things like stones, wall, trees, etc...

Have we taken notice these works mother nature created? Or do we only look at the beautiful flowers?

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

So, what is Wabi-Sabi.

Ignoring the location for now. Going back to ask ourselves what is Wabi-Sabi?

Is it:
- slowing down and appreciating things
- a log book which record mother nature activities (wear & tear, decomposition, corrosion, etc)
- emotional, intuitive, unconventional
- imperfect, impermanent, incomplete
- simple

More Sketches Please...

Things we considered

Weather: Rainy

We visited OLD SCHOOL and found out that it was too secluded. People might not necessary want to climb all the way up there to look at the exhibition.

Types of INSTALLATION - Sculpture, Guerrilla Advertising (Stickers/Coaster/Badges), Motion Graphics (Screens, Projections)

Monday, March 9, 2009

Where are we doing it?

Basically, we called up places such as National Art Council, Old School, CityLink Mall, etc.

Consideration on whether we can find the link of Wabi-Sabi to FolioHouse.

Conclusion:
FolioHouse would be doing many Art Movement. This time round, we are the artist they approach and we are promoting Wabi-Sabi.

Wabi Sabi - The Beauty of things Imperfect, Impermanent, and Incomplete
